Who he was: Benjamin Franklin was a man who was successful in many jobs and is one of the best-known patriots from the Revolutionary War. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1706 into a family of seventeen children. He was one of the youngest children. His father was a soap and candlemaker. Benjamin was able to attend school for two years but then had to stay home to help his father with the business. He continued to learn many things on his own. When he was twelve, he became an printers apprentice, which started his long career as a printer and a publisher. He eventually moved to Philadelphia and started the Philadelphia Gazette, which became a very important newspaper during the time of the Revolution. He was also a scientist and a statesman.
